For over 40 years, Merchants Fish Bar has been serving proper fish & chips from the heart of Bewdley. As a family-run business, great food and quality ingredients have always been at the centre of everything we do — but over the years, one thing became increasingly important to us: making sure nobody had to miss out.
How it started
From a Special Event to a Weekly Tradition
What began as occasional gluten free evenings soon became something much bigger. In the early days, we would completely transform the shop once a month into a fully gluten free environment, allowing coeliac customers to enjoy fish & chips safely and with confidence.
The response was incredible. Those special events quickly grew into dedicated weekly gluten free nights, with customers travelling from across the country to experience food they could finally trust and enjoy again.

As demand continued to grow, so did our commitment. Today, our award-winning gluten free menu is available every day, becoming a trusted part of what Merchants is known for. We’re proud to have created a place where gluten free customers can enjoy proper comfort food without compromise — whether it’s crispy fish & chips, curry sauce, batter or the little favourites people often miss most.
